Yaani movie review

Story:

Samuthiram (Jayabalan) and his son, Lingam, want to avenge PRV’s (Rajesh) family for the death of Lingam’s twin brother (Pandi).

Ravichandran (Arun Vijay) tries to protect his family at all costs despite his half-brothers disliking him.

Meanwhile, Arun Vijay’s half-brother Samuthirakani’s daughter Ammu Abirami elopes with a Muslim boy.

Samuthirakani blames Arun Vijay for this and send him out of the house.

Samuthirakani plans to kill Ammu Abiraami. Jayabalan tries to take advantage of this situation.

What happens next forms the rest of the story.

Analysis:

Yaanai is what you expect from Hari’s movie. There is action, drama, emotion and family sentiment.

But how this differs from the director’s previous flick is the way in which Hari has consciously reduced the fast paced scenes, giving more time for the audience to get involved with the characters.

Arun Vijay does complete justice to the role and gets to flex his muscles in the action blocks.

The single shot action sequence in the first half is one of the major highlights of the film.

Priya Bhavani Shankar gets a meaty role and has grabbed it with both hands.

Rest of the cast including Samuthirakani, Raadika, Ammu Abiraami and Yogi Babu have done their part well.

GV Prakash’s BGM is electrifying, however, the songs could have been better.
