YouTuber Mukhtar Ahmed arrested in two criminal cases, police informs court

YouTuber Mukthar Ahmed, 50, has been arrested by the Chennai Cyber Crime Wing after allegedly evading authorities for nearly a week. Reports indicate that he was taken into custody in Mysuru, Karnataka, in connection with a case involving alleged defamatory and sexually explicit remarks directed at BJP leader Alisha Abdullah.

The case relates to a video uploaded on June 3 on the “My India 24X7” YouTube channel. The programme featured Mukthar Ahmed and Suriya Siva, a former BJP member and son of DMK Rajya Sabha MP Tiruchi Siva. Authorities allege that the discussion included offensive and sexually suggestive comments about Alisha Abdullah, a former motorcycle racer and the BJP’s State Secretary for the Sports and Skill Development Cell, as well as remarks concerning her twin children.

In her complaint, Alisha Abdullah stated that she had been subjected to repeated attacks by Mukthar Ahmed and Suriya Siva since entering politics two years ago. She particularly objected to comments made about her children in the recent video.

Based on her complaint, the Cyber Crime Wing registered a case and arrested Suriya Siva. Investigators subsequently launched a search for Mukthar Ahmed, which led to his arrest on June 9. Police sources said his detention is also connected to another criminal case.

Following the arrest, Alisha Abdullah expressed gratitude to the police and the Tamil Nadu government through a social media post. Meanwhile, Mukthar Ahmed has approached the Madras High Court seeking anticipatory bail. In his petition, he denied the allegations and claimed that the complaint was filed to attract publicity and media attention.

According to court filings, he submitted screenshots of social media posts in which Alisha Abdullah condemned the interview and threatened legal action against those involved. Mukthar further claimed that he had lodged a counter-complaint, but alleged that police failed to act on it.

Maintaining his innocence, Mukthar argued that the controversial video had been uploaded by his associates without his prior knowledge or approval. He stated that he was travelling with his family from Vellore to Tiruvannamalai on May 22 when the video was published and that it had not undergone proper review before being uploaded.
