Wanted LeT terrorist killed in Kashmir encounter
A Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist wanted by security agencies was killed during an encounter with security forces in the higher reaches of Budgam district in central Kashmir on Tuesday, officials said.
The Chinar Corps did not immediately disclose the identity of the slain militant. Security officials, however, identified him as Sulaiman Shah, also known as Musa.
The Army said security forces launched an operation in the Korag-Yousmarg area after troops noticed suspicious movement.
According to the Army, the suspected terrorists opened fire after being challenged, leading to an exchange of gunfire in which one militant was killed.
Officials later said Musa was eliminated in the remote forested area of Dudhpathri while the operation was underway.
Musa was reportedly wanted in connection with several attacks carried out on both sides of the Pir Panjal range over a period of years. Officials said he had escaped an earlier encounter in the Yousmarg hills at the beginning of September.
His associate Yasir was killed during the September 5 operation. Security officials described Musa’s death as a significant blow to the LeT network operating in Jammu and Kashmir.
