Case against Modi: Court upholds Rs 25,000 fine imposed on Arvind Kejriwal
The Gujarat High Court has dismissed Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal’s appeal against a Rs 25,000 penalty imposed in the case concerning disclosure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s educational degree, upholding the earlier order.
A two-judge division bench pronounced its decision after reserving the judgment earlier.
The dispute began after the Central Information Commission directed Gujarat University to provide information relating to Modi’s degree. Gujarat University challenged that direction before the High Court, with Kejriwal included as a party in the proceedings.
A single judge subsequently set aside the CIC direction and imposed a Rs 25,000 penalty on Kejriwal.
Kejriwal later sought a review of that decision, but the plea was rejected.
He then approached the division bench seeking to overturn the single-judge order.
After hearing arguments from the parties and reserving its judgment, the division bench has now declined to interfere with the earlier ruling.
