Two detained in Mumbai over fake PMO IDs and gun ahead of Modi event
Mumbai Police detained two people following a security scare at a venue where Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to attend an event.
The incident occurred late Monday night during a security exercise at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre in the Bandra Kurla Complex. Police recovered a licensed firearm from one of the men.
According to the police, a 24-year-old man identified as Rohan Parekh was noticed behaving suspiciously at the venue. He allegedly claimed to be associated with the Prime Minister’s Office and was carrying an identity card that police determined to be fake.
His bodyguard was also detained after being found with the firearm. Police said an FIR had been registered in connection with the incident.
Authorities stated that three people had allegedly used a suspicious government identity card and a firearm to get past security at Jio World Plaza in BKC. Police clarified that the weapon was licensed.
The incident prompted additional security measures before the Prime Minister’s scheduled arrival. Investigators are questioning the detained individuals to establish why they entered the venue with the fake identification and firearm.
The Mumbai Crime Branch has taken charge of the investigation.
