Sri Gouri Priya on her journey from Telugu cinema to Tamil films
Sri Gouri Priya says her growing association with Tamil cinema has been an unexpected but important part of her career.
The actress recently appeared in the Telugu film Chennai Love Story with Kiran Abbavaram and was previously widely recognised for her performance in the 2024 Tamil film Lover.
Gouri, who grew up in Secunderabad, said Tamil cinema was already familiar to her through dubbed films she watched during childhood. Her interest deepened during the pandemic, when she began watching Tamil films in their original language.
Learning Tamil was initially challenging, but frequent interaction with colleagues during film shoots helped her become comfortable with the language. She said she eventually reached a point where she could understand and deliver her lines naturally.
Her ability to speak Tamil has also surprised some Telugu audiences, while Tamil viewers have warmly accepted her. Gouri’s next Tamil project is Bro Club, directed by Karthik Yogi. The film features Ravi Mohan in the lead along with SJ Suryah, Arjun Ashokan, Shraddha Srinath and Malavika Manoj. The actress said she is currently taking a short break from signing new projects after an intense period of work.
