Raghava Lawrence seeks public opinion on political entry, says time has come for new chapter
Actor, choreographer and filmmaker Raghava Lawrence has indicated that he is seriously considering a move into politics and has sought the views of his fans and supporters before making a final decision.
In a video shared on social media on Friday, Lawrence said he had never previously planned to enter active politics or pursue public life for power or personal gain. Instead, he explained that his long-standing interest had always been centred on serving society through charitable initiatives and supporting leaders he believed could bring positive change.
According to Lawrence, developments in recent years have prompted him to reconsider his position. He said circumstances have now led him to a stage where entering politics has become a possibility that he can no longer ignore.
The actor noted that the video was an honest account of his journey, covering his understanding of public service, the influence of his family—particularly his mother—and several experiences that shaped his thinking about political participation. He appealed to viewers to watch the entire video and share their opinions, saying public feedback would play an important role in his decision-making process.
Throughout the address, Lawrence repeatedly stressed the importance of selfless service. To explain his outlook, he recounted a story contrasting two employees—one who quietly performed his responsibilities and another who constantly sought favour through praise. The lesson, he said, was that sincere work eventually earns recognition without the need for personal expectations.
The filmmaker also reflected on his social welfare activities and revealed that he had once considered entering politics alongside Superstar Rajinikanth when the superstar explored launching a political movement. However, he said the idea was dropped after his mother expressed reservations about the decision, advising him to continue helping people through the resources he already possessed. Lawrence further recalled that Rajinikanth later withdrew from politics due to health concerns, bringing that chapter to a close.
