Karuppu draws praise for performances after OTT debut, but faces technical criticism

Suriya-starrer Karuppu has generated significant discussion online following its digital premiere, with viewers applauding the film’s performances while also raising concerns about certain technical aspects of the OTT version.

Soon after the fantasy-action drama began streaming, social media platforms were flooded with reactions from audiences who either revisited the film or watched it for the first time. Many viewers highlighted Suriya’s commanding screen presence as one of the film’s strongest assets, while director-actor R.J. Balaji earned appreciation for handling a large-scale commercial entertainer and blending devotion, action and courtroom drama elements.

However, alongside the praise, a section of viewers expressed disappointment with the visual presentation of the streaming version. Several users pointed to what they described as inconsistent or dull colour grading compared to the theatrical experience and promotional material released before the film’s debut. The criticism quickly gained traction online, sparking discussions among fans about the differences between the big-screen and OTT versions.

Despite the criticism, Karuppu continues to enjoy strong popularity following a successful theatrical run. The film, directed by R.J. Balaji and featuring Suriya and Trisha Krishnan in lead roles, arrived on streaming platform after emerging as one of the major Tamil box-office successes of the year.
