Mani Ratnam praises Dorothy, calls Karthik Subbaraj a major force in Tamil cinema
Filmmaker Mani Ratnam has spoken highly of Karthik Subbaraj’s latest film Dorothy, praising both the movie and the director’s filmmaking abilities.
Mani Ratnam described Karthik Subbaraj as a distinctive talent and highlighted his contribution to contemporary Tamil cinema. He also praised the filmmaker’s command over visual storytelling, particularly his approach to shots, technique and cinematic language.
Discussing Dorothy, Mani Ratnam said the film stood out to him and praised the way Subbaraj had handled its technical elements. He also pointed to the contribution of legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja, saying the music added another dimension to the film.
Dorothy stars Rishikanth, Sananth and Keerthy Suresh. The film received its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it reportedly earned a standing ovation.
