Mammootty introduced as leading smuggler Burma Karthikeyan in ‘OM: Chapter 1’
Mammootty’s character from the upcoming Dhanush-starrer OM: Chapter 1: Udhiram – The Blood Wood has been unveiled on the occasion of the actor’s birthday. He will portray Burma Karthikeyan, a smuggler who appears to have a strong connection with the people around him.
A character-reveal video introduces Burma Karthikeyan as a smuggler who is also portrayed as someone who cares for and protects the local community. His influence among both the public and the police has earned him the nickname ‘Siya’, meaning The Elder One.
The glimpse also hints at the morally complex nature of Mammootty’s character. In the video, Siya describes himself as gold containing small traces of copper, suggesting that the character will have both admirable qualities and darker shades.
OM: Chapter 1: Udhiram – The Blood Wood is written and directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, who previously directed Amaran. Dhanush plays the lead role in the film.
The project marks Mammootty’s return to Tamil cinema after a seven-year gap and has generated interest because of the combination of Mammootty and Dhanush, along with the film’s intriguing character reveals.
