Vijay Sethupathi and Sai Pallavi attract attention in Mani Ratnam’s Inji Vellam first look

Director Mani Ratnam has officially announced the title of his upcoming film as Inji Vellam, ending the anticipation surrounding the project. The film stars Vijay Sethupathi and Sai Pallavi in the lead roles, with the makers releasing its first-look motion poster on September 7.

The motion poster offers the first glimpse of Vijay Sethupathi and Sai Pallavi sharing the screen. The duo are seen together in the rain in a romantic setting, suggesting that their characters could be involved in a love story. However, details about their roles and the film’s plot have not yet been revealed.

The production team shared the title and first look through social media while keeping major details about the project confidential. Kolkata is reportedly among the important locations where the film has been shot.

Another major attraction is the reunion of Mani Ratnam and composer AR Rahman. The two have collaborated on several acclaimed films over the years, and Rahman’s return adds to the anticipation surrounding ‘Inji Vellam’.

The technical team includes cinematographer Avik Mukhopadhyay and editor Sreekar Prasad. The film is produced by Subaskaran, Mani Ratnam and Siva Ananth under the banners of Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions.

Inji Vellam is expected to reach theatres in January 2027. The film also marks a fresh on-screen pairing between Vijay Sethupathi and Sai Pallavi.

Vijay Sethupathi currently has several projects in his lineup, including ‘Slum Dog’ with Puri Jagannadh, a film with Balaji Tharaneedharan, Thiagarajan Kumararaja’s ‘Pocket Novel’ and Raj & DK’s ‘Farzi 2’. He is also continuing as the host of Bigg Boss Tamil.

Sai Pallavi, meanwhile, will next appear in Ramayana, which also stars Ranbir Kapoor and Yash. She is additionally part of OM: Chapter 1, featuring Dhanush, Mammootty and Sreeleela.
