Cyclone ‘Miachaung’ likely to hit Tamil Nadu, coastal Andhra Pradesh on December 4

A low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal and the South Andaman Sea will intensify into a cyclone and reach Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh on December 4, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

The low-pressure area will likely move northwest, form a depression over the Bay of Bengal and intensify into a cyclonic storm ‘Miachaung’ on December 3, the Met department said in a release.

While the Andaman and Nicobar Islands would receive isolated heavy rainfall on December 1, coastal regions of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry would receive isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall from December 2 to December 4.

Similarly, isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall has been predicted over the coastal belts of Andhra Pradesh on December 3 and 4, the IMD said.

The IMD warned fishers not to venture into the southeast Bay of Bengal till December 2, into southwest Bay of Bengal till December 4 and westcentral Bay of Bengal till December 5.
