Yuvan backs AR Rahman after Chennai concert row
Composer AR Rahman’s Marakkuma Nenjam concert held at OMR in Chennai on Sunday has turned out to be a nightmare for fans, who not only had to put up with overcrowding, but also go through stampedes and children going missing in the mele.
Many concert-goers with valid tickets complained that they couldn’t even enter the venue, and returned home disappointed.
Since then the ace composer has been facing severe backlash for the mismanagement and many have tagged the musician on social media asking him to apologise. Meanwhile, Yuvan Shankar Raja has put out a lengthy statement on his social media handle, supporting ARR.
The statement read, “Organising an event of the magnitude of the concert is an immensely complex task, involving numerous moving parts, from logistics and crowd control to traffic management. As unfortunate as it is, mishaps such as overcrowding and other unforeseen problems have happened during concerts of such magnitude, owing to several reasons including organisational missteps. Even with the best intentions things go awry.”
He wrote, “As performers, we place our trust in these producers to ensure that everything runs smoothly and our fans are well taken care of while we’re on stage. It is truly disheartening to witness such a situation. Let us hope that lessons are learned and improvements are made.”
