Youtuber Savukku Shankar arrested, 5 staff detained

YouTuber and political analyst ‘Savukku’ Shankar was taken into custody from his home on Saturday morning, according to law enforcement authorities.

Alongside Shankar, five members of his staff were also detained.

The arrest followed a confrontation at Shankar’s home. Officials reported that the commentator initially blocked entry to the premises when investigators arrived.

“He refused to open the door, insisting that the police first speak to his advocates before stepping in,” a police official stated.

Footage of the incident, which has since circulated widely on social media, shows two officers attempting to negotiate through the closed door. The officers are heard explaining that they were prepared to present the arrest warrant and relevant documentation if requested through the proper legal channels.

They further cautioned that “Police should not be prevented from discharging their duties.”

Shortly before his apprehension, Shankar uploaded a video to his social media platforms alleging that the legal action against him was based on a “false” complaint orchestrated by a film producer.

Addressing the specific nature of the case, Shankar stated:

“The police issued summons in October end, and I replied stating that the said film producer had never visited my office or that I had sought money to remove a video that allegedly defamed him.”

Shankar vehemently denied the police’s claims that he and his team assaulted the producer to “snatch” ₹2 lakh while demanding further payments to take down a video.

“This is all fabricated, and such incidents never happened,” he asserted.
