“Yen Ennai Edho Seidhai” Movie Review
“A Poetic Love Story Told with Freshness, Emotion and Realism”
As the protagonist, Anthony reminds us of the Prabhu Deva we admired in the 1990s. His body language, dialogue delivery and voice carry a charming familiarity, while still giving the character his own identity. Since the story revolves primarily around the hero and heroine, Anthony and Madhumitha Das have handled their roles with responsibility and conviction, understanding the emotional weight of their characters.
Anthony, who has also written the story, deserves appreciation for his effective editing. Madhumitha Das makes a strong impression as the female lead, expressing sadness, longing and love beautifully through her eyes. Her subtle performance adds emotional depth to the romantic portions.
The two characters who appear as the hero’s friends bring a refreshing and enjoyable energy to the film. Jeeva Ravi, as the hero’s father, has limited screen time but makes his presence count.
The first half is particularly engaging, combining the hero’s fun-filled moments with his friends and the romantic portions between the lead pair. These sequences create curiosity and build expectations for what follows. Although the second half becomes more leisurely due to its extended scenes, the film continues to maintain its emotional core.
Cinematographer Pietro Villani deserves special mention for capturing the romantic sequences with warmth and beauty. Several visuals stay with us even after the scenes end. Jaykar’s songs are lively and complement the mood of the film, while Joey Reda’s background score effectively supports the emotional moments.
At its heart, this is a love story presented differently. Rather than following a conventional cinematic formula, the film unfolds almost like a collection of love poems. Its emotions and romantic expressions have the gentle charm of reading a beautifully written book of poetry or receiving a heartfelt message on a greeting card.
Anthony’s journey from working as a software engineer in the USA to learning filmmaking, creating short films and eventually coming to Chennai to direct this film is itself inspiring. His crisp English accent adds to his screen presence.
Overall, the team deserves appreciation for attempting something fresh, natural and realistic. Despite a few minor shortcomings, the film has its own identity, emotional sincerity and a poetic quality that can leave a lasting impression on audiences.
