Winter Session of Parliament to commence today, various issues to be discussed

As the Winter Session of Parliament is set to commence today, the Congress is looking at cornering the government on various issues, including the border situation with China, the alleged misuse of government agencies, inflation, rising unemployment, among others.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has called for a meeting of Opposition leaders to discuss strategy for the Winter Session on Wednesday at 9.45 am in Parliament.

Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi and several senior leaders who are walking in the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ are unlikely to attend the Winter Session.

Even during the meeting convened by the central government to discuss the legislative agenda of the Winter Session, Congress and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) raised the issue of alleged misuse of investigating agencies, which was backed by the Aam Aadmi Party, Nationalist Congress Party and several other parties.

In the all-party meeting called by the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Congress was represented by Adhir Ranjan Chowdary and the whip of Congress Parliamentary Party in Rajya Sabha Dr Naseer Hussain.

As many as 25 bills, including two financial bills, will be taken up for discussion over the next 17 days (effectively 56 hours).

Sources said that Congress, during the all-party meet, pointed out that the time allotted was not enough. The grand old party also raised the aforementioned issues that need to be taken up for discussion.
