Will never let anyone destroy Tamil language: Stalin writes to cadres
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin reiterated the DMK’s strong opposition to the imposition of Hindi, asserting that the party would not have protested had there been no efforts to enforce the language.
In a letter addressed to DMK cadres, Stalin stated, “As you are still imposing it, we are still opposing it. Had you not imposed it, we would not be opposing, will not be removing Hindi letters. The unique identity of people of Tamil Nadu is self-respect. Will never let anyone instigate it.”
His remarks come in response to criticism from BJP leaders in Tamil Nadu, who questioned how passengers from northern states would navigate railway stations if Hindi signage was removed. Stalin countered by highlighting the lack of similar efforts to accommodate Tamil-speaking travellers in the north.
“Such queries should have been made with PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Yadav, who are attempting to impose Hindi. You are conducting Kasi Tamil Sangamam and Kumbh Mela and taking people from here. Have you placed name boards in Tamil and other languages over there to assist them? You should have asked if Indian languages were treated equally and kept such boards,” Stalin said.
Emphasising that the Dravidian movement does not oppose any language, Stalin asserted that Tamil Nadu’s resistance stems from the need to safeguard Tamil from linguistic domination.
“Tamil does not have enmity towards any language and attempted to destroy it. But if any language had attempted to oppress it, will never allow it. Our history shows that we have chased away such attempts,” he said.
