Voter roll revision: c extends deadlines in 6 States and Union Territories

The Election Commission of India has announced additional time for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in six states and Union Territories, providing relief to voters and election officials working within the existing schedule.

The revised timelines cover Nagaland, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Maharashtra and Delhi. The extension follows requests from state election authorities seeking additional time to complete different stages of the revision process.

Delhi has received an extension of 26 days for submitting claims and objections. The deadline, originally scheduled for October 30, has now been moved to November 25.

The subsequent process of issuing notices and resolving claims and objections will continue until December 15, instead of the earlier November 30 deadline. The final electoral roll for Delhi is now scheduled to be published on December 22.

The revision schedule was modified following a request from Delhi’s Chief Electoral Officer under Rule 12 of the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960. The draft electoral roll had been released on August 31, with October 1, 2026, designated as the qualifying date.

Andhra Pradesh and Haryana have also received revised timelines. In both states, the deadline for issuing notices and deciding claims and objections has been extended to November 20, 2026.

The final voter lists for these two states will be published on November 30. Their qualifying date remains July 1, 2026. The Election Commission said its decisions followed requests submitted by the respective Chief Electoral Officers on October 29. The revised orders also take into account earlier directions issued to modify the SIR timetable.

Election officials have been instructed to communicate the changes to all concerned stakeholders and ensure that the revised schedule receives adequate publicity. Political parties must also be formally informed, with copies of the communications shared with the respective chief secretaries.

Andhra Pradesh and Haryana are among the 19 states and Union Territories included in the SIR exercise announced by the Commission on May 14, 2026.
