Vijay to meet booth-level TVK workers ahead of Maduranthakam bypoll
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and TVK founder C. Joseph Vijay is scheduled to interact with booth-level party functionaries in the Maduranthakam Assembly constituency on September 25, according to Minister N. Anand.
The interaction is scheduled for 3 p.m. and comes ahead of the October 6 by-election.
TVK has fielded Maragatham Kumaravel, who previously won the constituency as an AIADMK candidate in the 2026 Assembly election. She subsequently resigned as MLA and joined TVK.
Speaking to party workers, Anand said ministers assigned to constituencies by the Chief Minister would spend several days there, work alongside the local MLA and organise grievance-redressal activities.
He said the government would focus on addressing issues such as roads and drinking water and urged party workers to conduct door-to-door campaigning.
Minister Aadhav Arjuna highlighted the government’s proposed social justice survey, describing it as a caste-based socio-economic exercise. The state government announced the survey on June 18.
However, the government has said that the field-level exercise will begin only after the Union government’s planned caste enumeration under the national population census. As of September 2026, field data collection had not begun.
Arjuna also criticised the previous DMK government over its handling of caste enumeration and alleged that the AIADMK leadership had moved away from the principles on which the party was founded. These were political allegations made at the meeting.
He also cited government measures concerning agriculture, including a reported ₹6,220 crore waiver of farm loans and minimum support price measures for paddy and sugarcane farmers.
TVK leaders asked their workers to campaign for Maragatham Kumaravel, who is contesting on the Whistle symbol. The Maduranthakam and Dharapuram Assembly by-elections are scheduled for October 6.
