Vijay invokes MGR’s legacy at maiden rally in Puducherry
Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party founder and actor-turned-politician Vijay, in his first rally in Puducherry, on Tuesday, December 9, remembered the legacy of former Tamil Nadu CM and AIADMK founder MG Ramachandran (popularly known as MGR) while praising the people for supporting him.
The rally marked his first public appearance after stampede at his Karur rally on September 27 that killed 41 people and injured over 60.
The TVK leader also praised Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangaswamy for the security provided for the rally.
“Puducherry government led by CM Rangaswamy is not like Tamil Nadu’s DMK regime,” Vijay said, adding, “Puducherry government is impartial as it has given security to rally of rival party,” as per news agency PTI.
The politician added that it was his duty to support the Union Territory of Puducherry as well, batting for unity among the people.
Vijay also hurled attacks at the Union and DMK-led Tamil Nadu state government. “Only for Centre, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are separate, we people are together,” he said, as per PTI.
“The Union government has not paid any attention towards Puducherry.” He added that the government has not fulfilled the demands for statehood, as per news agency ANI.
“It will be good if Tamil Nadu’s DMK regime learns from impartial Puducherry government. They will, however, not learn now. DMK regime will 100% learn their lesson from 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Our people will ensure it,” Vijay further said, as per PTI.
Meanwhile, a man was detained with a handgun who was trying to enter the premises before the commencement of the programme.
