Victim – Who Is Next? Review

Four stories about four characters faced with life-and-death questions constitute the core of Victim.

Dhammam:

Director Pa Ranjith’s Dhammam tells the story of a farmer from a lower caste who is subjected to all forms of oppression. Guru Somasundaram depicts the plight of his character in a convincing manner. Kalaiyarasan as a person from a dominant caste fits the role well. Like all other Ranjith’s movie, there are several layers of storytelling. The director has effectively captured the mob mentality.

Mirrange:

Mirrange is directed by Rajesh M and has Priya Bhavani Shankar as the lead. PBS is an IT employee who comes to Chennai for a presentation. She stays in a resort on the outskirts of the city without knowing its history. Natty plays the caretaker of the resort. Rajesh has tried to make a gripping thriller with the plot, but the result is not as expected. The performances of PBS and Natty are functional as well.

Kottai Paakum Motta Maadi Sitharum:

This fantasy drama is set in against the backdrop of Covid lockdown. It is the story of a how a journalist in his mid 40s wants to interview a spiritual guru who is allegedly over 400 years. With power performers like Thambi Ramaiah and Nasser, director Chimbudevan could have given a better script. The interaction between the duo is neither spiritual nor philosophical.

Confession:

Amala Paul lives in a posh apartment in Adyar. Prassana has a sniper pointed at her and asks her to confess her misdemeanours. Who is Prassana and what Amala Paul has to confess forms the rest of the story. Both Amala Paul and Prassana are solid in their roles. A better screenplay by director Venkat Prabhu would have made this segment more interesting.
