Vaiko says MDMK will stand by TVK government, criticises Governor
MDMK general secretary Vaiko has declared that his party will firmly support the ruling TVK government in Tamil Nadu, describing it as a protective force against political attacks from the opposition.
Speaking to reporters in Coimbatore, Vaiko strongly criticised Governor R.N. Ravi’s successor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, alleging that the Governor was exceeding his constitutional role by closely monitoring state administration and attempting to influence governance. He argued that only an elected government has the authority to administer the state and accused the Governor of functioning in line with the Union government’s interests.
Vaiko also praised Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s administration, claiming it had significantly reduced corruption and commission-based practices.
Explaining MDMK’s departure from the DMK-led alliance, he said the party had experienced disrespect during seat-sharing negotiations and felt compelled to chart its own political course.
On the Mekedatu reservoir proposal in Karnataka, Vaiko reiterated Tamil Nadu’s long-standing objections. He warned that the project could affect downstream water availability, impacting irrigation and drinking water supplies across several districts. He urged people to unite in large-scale democratic protests to protect the state’s water interests.
