A Solid and Entertaining Horror Experience

Until Dawn delivers a polished and engaging horror experience, successfully adapting the spirit of the popular PlayStation game. The story centers around a group of twentysomethings trapped in a mysterious time loop, facing the same terrifying events repeatedly. While the basic premise feels familiar, the film is executed with a level of professionalism that keeps it enjoyable throughout.

The young cast shines, with Ella Rubin, Odessa A’zion, and Michael Cimino bringing energy and charisma to their roles. Their performances add heart to the story, making it easy for viewers to root for them as they fight for survival. Peter Stormare’s memorable turn as a grizzled old man discussing trauma and wendigos injects a dose of eerie charm and gravitas into the narrative.

Director David F. Sandberg once again proves his skill in crafting atmospheric, tightly paced horror films, as seen previously in Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation. His direction ensures that even familiar horror elements feel fresh and well-staged. Although the film leans on some traditional genre tropes, Sandberg’s eye for suspenseful set-pieces and strong visual storytelling elevates the material.

While Until Dawn doesn’t radically reinvent the horror genre, it offers a satisfying and competently made thrill ride. Fans of movies like Happy Death Day and The Final Girls will appreciate its playful approach to the time loop concept. With its committed performances, slick production values, and a few memorable moments, Until Dawn stands as an entertaining choice for horror lovers looking for a fun watch.

It may not be the scariest or most groundbreaking film of the year, but it’s a well-crafted, accessible horror flick that’s easy to enjoy, making it well worth a viewing.
