Union Home Minister Amit Shah kicks off ‘Modi Pongal’ celebrations in Tiruchy
Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the “Modi Pongal” celebrations in Tiruchirappalli on Monday, with over 2,000 participants joining the festivities.
The event, held at the Mannarpuram military grounds, featured traditional Pongal rituals, cultural performances, and community gatherings, marking a vibrant start to the state’s harvest festival celebrations.
Earlier in the day, Shah visited the historic Srirangam Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple for darshan, seeking blessings before the public event. His temple visit was conducted amid tight security, drawing the attention of devotees and media alike.
Shah’s two-day visit to Tamil Nadu also includes political engagements in the run-up to the 2026 Assembly elections. On Sunday, he met senior BJP leaders, including party election in-charge Piyush Goyal and state president Nainar Nagenthran, reviewing organisational preparedness and strategies.
During his visit, Shah interacted with local communities, reinforcing the National Democratic Alliance’s outreach while blending cultural, religious, and political engagements.
The Modi Pongal event in Tiruchy was a showcase of traditional Tamil harvest celebrations, combining festive spirit with political presence, as Shah encouraged participation and unity among citizens and party supporters.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has extended warm birthday wishes to Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, the DMK MP and Rajya Sabha member, on her special day.
Shah’s message comes amid the busy pre‑election season in Tamil Nadu, where political engagement is high across parties.
