Two robbers held in airport while attempting to flee after chain snatching
Chennai witnessed a shocking seven chain-snatching incidents in a single morning, with robbers targeting women across multiple areas.
In a swift operation, police arrested two suspects from Uttar Pradesh at the Chennai airport while they were attempting to flee to Hyderabad.
Over the past few weeks, the crime rate in Chennai has been on the rise, with increasing cases of drug peddling, vehicle theft, sexual offenses, murders, and robberies. Despite numerous complaints, many victims and residents remain unaware of the status of police action.
In today’s incidents, chain snatchings were reported in Thiruvanmiyur, Guindy, Saidapet, Besant Nagar, Pallikaranai, and Velachery. In Thiruvanmiyur’s Indira Nagar, a woman on her way to work was robbed of 5 sovereigns of gold, while another snatching occurred in Shastri Nagar. At Guindy, a woman lost 5 sovereigns of gold while jogging, and similar incidents took place in Saidapet, Velachery, and Pallikaranai.
In total, 26 sovereigns of gold were stolen in just a few hours. CCTV footage from Pallikaranai, Adyar, and Velachery indicated that a single gang was behind these crimes, likely two individuals on a motorbike.
During their investigation, police discovered that the two culprits were attempting to board a flight to Hyderabad. Acting swiftly, law enforcement nabbed them at the airport before they could escape. Further inquiries confirmed that both suspects were from Uttar Pradesh. The investigation is ongoing to determine their involvement in other crimes.
