Twelfth Kalasagar Awards Announced

The Twelfth Kalasagar awards for exemplary contribution in the field of traditional performing arts for the year 2021 announced. Kalasagar awards are given in honor of the artistes in the field of Kathakali -Vesham, Music, Chenda, Maddalam and Chutty as well as Bharathanatyam, Mohiniyattom, Kuchipudi, Ottenthullal, Chakyarkoothu, Koodiyattom, Thayambaka, and Panchavadyam — Thimila, Maddalam, Edakka, Thalam and Kombu. As in the past awardees are selected through nominations received from art conosseiure.

The Kalasagar Awards for excellence in traditional performing arts will be presented generally on May 28 on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Kalamandalam Krishnankutty Poduval, legendary kathakali maestro and the founder of Kalasagar. Fear over the spread of coronavirus has already disrupted the public life and Government authorities insist that all public events and social gathering needs to be put on hold till normal life is restored.
