TVK chief Vijay’s Campaign cancelled in Villivakkam and T. Nagar today
Actor-politician Vijay cancelled parts of his election campaign in Chennai, including Villivakkam and T. Nagar, citing security and time constraints.
According to TVK sources, the police permitted the campaign to be conducted within just one hour between Villivakkam and T. Nagar, which was deemed inadequate to manage large crowds and complete the planned roadshow.
Citing these limitations, the party called off the programme, alleging that the restrictions made it impractical to carry out the campaign effectively.
Vijay had planned to conduct an intensive campaign in support of his party’s candidates contesting in four key Chennai constituencies—Villivakkam, Anna Nagar, Virugambakkam, and Thyagaraya Nagar.
Extensive arrangements had been made to meet the public in high-traffic areas such as Ashok Nagar, Thirumangalam, T.V. Nagar, and Koyambedu. For this campaign, the TVK had sought permission to hold events at five different locations.
After a long wait, the police and the Election Commission granted permission last night, but only for two locations instead of the requested five. Permission was granted for Villivakkam and Thyagaraya Nagar.
The Election Commission cited that the denied locations—such as Thirumangalam and Koyambedu—serve as major transportation hubs in Chennai, where conducting a campaign would result in severe traffic congestion.
