TVK appoints Aadhav Arjuna as election campaign gen sec

TVK president Vijay appointed ex-VCK deputy general secretary Aadhav Arjuna as the party’s general secretary in charge of managing election campaigns and former AIADMK IT wing joint secretary CTR Nirmal Kumar as the deputy general secretary of TVK’s IT wing.

The actor-politician highlighted that Aadhav Arjuna who joined the TVK would work alongside political strategist John Arokiyasamy to design and execute the party’s election strategy. Nirmal Kumar too formally joined the party Friday.

He announced a series of new appointments aimed at strengthening the party’s organisational structure and boosting its election campaign efforts ahead of the 2026 elections.

Partymen should not hesitate to go to the field,” said Vijay on the occasion.

“The growth of the party depends on your hard work. I am working hard, and you should too. We will achieve victory. No one should hesitate to go to the field. You must actively engage in addressing people’s issues,” he urged the newly-elected office-bearers.

Aadhav Arjuna’s first day in Vijay’s TVK saw him meeting VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan in Chennai.

Addressing the media, Thirumavalavan stated that the meeting had no political agenda, emphasizing Aadhav Arjuna’s respect for Periyar’s ideology. Aadhav Arjuna, in turn, described Thirumavalavan as his mentor, stating that TVK and VCK are not ideological opposites.

This meeting has sparked speculation about a possible understanding between TVK and VCK in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape.

In early December 2024, Vijay launched a book, Ellorukkumaana Thalaivar Ambedkar (Ambedkar: A leader for all), authored by Arjuna. At the book launch, Arjuna had said: “In Tamil Nadu, only monarchy exists. In 2026, monarchy should come to an end. Chief Ministers should not be chosen based on birth. We need ideologically committed leaders to rule Tamil Nadu. A common man, a Dalit, should become Chief Minister.”

Arjuna’s comments on “dynastic politics of the DMK” had sparked a controversy, as the VCK is a constituent of the DMK-led alliance in Tamil Nadu. Following the incident, VCK founder and Chidambaram MP Thol. Thirumavalavan suspended him from the party for six months. Arjuna quit the VCK, a few days after his suspension.
