Yash’s undeniable charisma is the beating heart of Geetu Mohandas’s Toxic, a stylish, ambitious gangster drama that blends larger-than-life action with flashes of vulnerability, emotion and psychological depth. At its centre is Raya, a man who seems fearless not because he is arrogant, but because life itself has taught him to stop fearing death. That intriguing contradiction gives Yash a character with plenty of room to command the screen.

Set against the atmospheric backdrop of 1947 Goa, Toxic follows Raya and his sister Ganga as they navigate a dangerous criminal world shaped by ambition, betrayal and power. The period setting, noir-inspired mood and striking visual language give the film an identity of its own. Mohandas brings a distinctive sensibility to the gangster genre, creating moments that feel stylish, unpredictable and visually arresting.

Yash is particularly effective when Raya’s swagger gives way to vulnerability. He handles the flamboyant dialogues and action sequences with effortless confidence, but it is in the quieter moments that he reveals the character’s emotional scars. His ability to shift between menace, charm and fragility gives Raya a compelling presence throughout the film.

Nayanthara brings strength and intensity to Ganga, while Kiara Advani makes a strong impression as Nadia. Nadia is one of the film’s most interesting characters, combining glamour with intelligence, independence and emotional agency. Advani brings genuine passion to her relationship with Raya, and her confrontations with him provide some of the film’s most engaging moments.

The film’s nearly three-hour runtime allows Mohandas to build an expansive world filled with colourful characters, elaborate set pieces and shifting loyalties. The editing gives the narrative a deliberately restless energy, while the production design and period atmosphere add considerable scale to the storytelling.

The final act is where Toxic truly finds its emotional pulse. Raya’s past begins to catch up with him, and Yash’s performance becomes more layered as the character confronts a threat to everything he has built. The introduction of Ticket, also played by Yash, adds an intriguing psychological dimension and gives the actor an opportunity to explore another side of his performance.

Ultimately, Toxic is an unapologetically larger-than-life cinematic experience powered by Yash’s star presence, Mohandas’s distinctive vision and several memorable performances. It may be extravagant, but that extravagance is also part of its appeal. As Raya himself says, “A king might rule or rot. But he never retires.” Toxic embraces that philosophy with confidence, style and ambition.
