Toll price increased in 40 toll booths in Tamil Nadu
Toll rates across 40 plazas in Tamil Nadu increased on Tuesday, April 1, following the annual revision by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
The hike, which ranges between 5% and 10%, will impact commuters using major highways, including Vanagaram and Surapattu on the Chennai Elevated Bypass, Nallur on the Chennai-Kolkata Highway, and Athur and Paranur on the Chennai-Tiruchi Highway, in the state.
The new rates, based on the Wholesale Price Index (WPI), were hiked by ₹5-₹25 per vehicle per trip, with the increase being relatively modest due to a minimal rise in the WPI.
The toll increase, implemented every April for national highways built before 1992, applies to all vehicle types. The revised toll fees are categorised into slabs, with rates varying based on the vehicle’s size and type. Commercial vehicles are seeing the highest hikes, while the adjustment for private vehicles is relatively modest.
