TN govt finalises criteria for Rs 1,000 monthly aid for women
The Tamil Nadu government on Friday announced that women heads of families, who completed 21 years of age or born before September 15, 2002 can apply for its ambitious scheme ‘Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam (Kalaignar women’s entitlement scheme) which would offer monthly assistance of Rs 1,000.
Each PDS card is counted as a family and only one member of the card is entitled to avail the aid.
Families applying for the scheme must meet the following three economic criteria, including annual income less than Rs 2.5 lakh; they should own less than five acres of wetland and 10 acres of dryland and annual domestic power consumption must be less than 3,600 units.
A family is eligible to apply if one of its members also avail maintenance allowance from the department of welfare of differently-abled under severely-affected category.
Speaking at a review meeting with the district collectors, chief minister M K Stalin announced that the scheme would be named after his father and former chief minister M Karunanidhi to commemorate his birth centenary and his “great work” for the welfare of women.
