Thiruchendur Murugan Temple consecration held after 16 years
The sacred Thiruchendur Murugan Temple witnessed its much-anticipated consecration (Kumbabishekam) ceremony on Monday, July 7, 2025, after a significant gap of 16 years.
Devotees from across the state and beyond thronged the temple town to witness the auspicious event.
The Maha Kumbabishekam, a ritual believed to rejuvenate the divine power of the temple deities, was performed with great fervor and adherence to ancient traditions. Priests chanted hymns and poured holy water from specially consecrated pots onto the temple’s vimanas (towers), signifying the completion of the ritual.
The previous consecration ceremony for the Thiruchendur Murugan Temple was held in 2009. The 16-year interval leading up to this year’s event saw extensive renovation and restoration work undertaken within the temple premises, preparing it for this grand occasion.
The consecration ceremony is a momentous event for the millions of devotees of Lord Murugan, and particularly for those who revere Thiruchendur as one of his Arupadaiveedu (six abodes). The successful completion of the Kumbabishekam marks a renewed spiritual energy at the historic temple, ensuring its sanctity and welcoming devotees for years to come.
