Thiru A.M.V. Raja – Member of Legislative Assembly – Virugambakkam launched Rotary Club of Chennai K K Nagar and Samarpan ( RMD Care Initiative)’s mega health care and elder care initiative at Ashok Nagar.

The Rotary  Club of Madras K K Nagar joined hands with Samarpan – a Geriatric and medical care organization to conduct a mega health camp and elder care camp at their Ashok Nagar center.  The camp was inaugurated by Thiru A.M.V.  Prabhakar Raja –  Member of Legislative Assembly ( MLA) – Virugambakkam.   Dr. Republica Sridhar,  Founder RMD Care led the mega health camp.  Rotarian Surender Raj,  President of the Rotary Club of Chennai K K Nagar and the senior team of Rotarians from the Club were present at the camp. 

 Specialist doctors and medical professionals were present to conduct the health camp A free medical camp was conducted covering geriatrics, Orthopedics,  Gynecology,  Vision (Opthomology), Dental Screening,  General Check up and random blood sugar.    Physiotherapy and nutrition counselling was also provided as part of the camp.   .  More than 125 persons were screened and medical information provided. 

The camp has a follow up mechanism where the patients screened are encouraged to go back with the progress or clarifications to the center again.   Thiru Prabhakar Raja launched a special geriatric medical care package covering various medical aspects for seniors.  The care pakage that costs around Rs.3000/-  had been launched at a special price of Rs.800/- making care affordable and accessible by people.  

Music therapy as a concept of non-medical intervention was introduced at the camp and was done by the Rotary International District 3232 music therapy team.    Elders enjoyed the therapy and sang along with the team.  

Team Samarpan and the Rotary Club of Chennai K K Nagar did awareness campaigns highlighting the event and this ensured a good turn up of people for the health camp.  

It is a neighborhood concept that is conceived to converge medical and social initiatives to Chennai’s growing geriatric care population.   It is an initiative of the RMD Care Group which has embarked on this initiative as a pioneering effort help elders lead a better life .RMD Group is a well-diversified group with a multi-specialty hospital, a nursing home, a Trust that takes care of the medical needs of the underprivileged and home care.
