“Then Chennai” Movie Review

“Then Chennai” opens with an intriguing voice over, setting the stage for a crime thriller with emotional depth. The narrative then delves into a gripping plot centered around a gang targeting bars, blending action with a heartwarming emotional core and a touch of romance.

The story revolves around Ranga, a man juggling multiple responsibilities and struggling to find balance. Elangovan, portraying Tony, impresses with his nuanced performance, showing versatility compared to his earlier role in Sivakumarin Sabatham. Nitin Mehta stands out with his suave and stylish portrayal, adding charm to the film.

The plot intricately follows Jason and Tony, partners running a bar, as they face challenges from a gang targeting their business. The heist storyline gains additional tension as it coincides with the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, creating a backdrop of uncertainty and chaos.

While some performances, like that of The Doctor and Ranga himself, could have been more polished, these are minor hiccups in an otherwise engaging film. The narrative is well-paced, and the screenplay keeps viewers invested in the unfolding drama.

Ranga, making his debut as a filmmaker, deserves praise for his strong execution of a well-conceived script. Despite the challenges of handling a multi-layered story, he successfully delivers a movie that entertains while resonating emotionally.

With its engaging story line, memorable characters, and a compelling mix of crime and emotion, Then Chennai marks a promising debut and sets high expectations for Ranga’s future ventures.
