The number of polling booths in Tamil Nadu is likely to increase

The number of polling booths in Tamil Nadu is set to see a significant increase, with the Election Commission of India (ECI) reportedly planning to add over 6,000 new polling stations.

This expansion is part of the preparations for the upcoming Assembly elections, expected to take place in April or May of next year.

The move is in line with the ECI’s policy to ensure that no polling station has more than 1,200 voters, a measure aimed at streamlining the voting process and preventing overcrowding.

The addition of these new booths is expected to bring the total number of polling stations in the state to approximately 74,000.

This initiative is a crucial step in the ECI’s preparations, which also includes the ongoing process of updating voter lists and ensuring all polling stations are accessible for persons with disabilities.

The increase in polling booths is intended to enhance the voting experience, making it more convenient and efficient for the electorate to cast their ballots.
