The Greatest Of All Time (THE GOAT) Movie Review
GOAT showcases Vijay in a double role, delivering mass entertainment for his fans. MS Gandhi (played by Vijay) was once a top officer in the Special Anti-Terrorist Squad (SATS), keeping his dangerous career hidden from his wife (Sneha). Despite his high-stakes job, Gandhi juggled his family duties with secret missions. However, when a mission in Thailand takes a dark turn, Gandhi’s life spirals, leading him to step away from action.
Seventeen years later, Gandhi is a humble immigration officer, separated from his wife and raising his teenage daughter. His peaceful life is disrupted when a work trip to Russia leads him to cross paths with his long-lost son, Jeevan, also portrayed by Vijay. This reunion sparks a gripping father-son confrontation, with Gandhi wrestling with his past and seeking reconciliation.
The film’s first half is action-packed, setting up an emotional and thrilling interval. While the plot follows familiar patterns, the performances, especially Vijay’s dual role, elevate the film. The second half focuses on Gandhi’s redemption and his determination to protect his family, culminating in an exhilarating climax during a live CSK cricket match. Although it stretches slightly, this sequence is a treat for Vijay’s fans.
Director Venkat Prabhu fills the movie with nostalgic references, blending in nods to classic Vijay films and iconic Tamil cinema moments. Trisha’s cameo and her dance sequence with Vijay offer delightful fan moments. While the music and cinematography fall short of expectations, Vijay’s charismatic performances steal the show.
Despite its predictable storyline, GOAT excels in fan service, with de-aging technology enabling Vijay to seamlessly portray both father and son. The supporting cast, including Yogi Babu and Premji, adds humor, making this a crowd-pleasing film for Vijay’s loyal audience.
