The Department of Computer Science commemorates Silver Jubilee Celebrations

* 25 activities comprising seminars and workshops are crafted for the year-long jubilee celebrations

The Department of Computer Science, Stella Maris College is commemorating a milestone, its Silver Jubilee. The celebrations aim to not only honour the Department’s illustrious past but also to set the stage for an even more promising future.

The yearlong festivities commenced with a grand inauguration ceremony on 28 July 2023. The event was graced by Shri Amaresh Pujari IPS, Director General of Police, Prisons who honoured the occasion as the chief guest and shed light on crucial aspects of cyber awareness, emphasizing the importance of responsible social media usage and the significance of reducing digital footprints. His address provided valuable insights into safeguarding one’s digital presence in today’s increasingly interconnected world. The Department also released a coffee table book, which captured the Department’s inspiring journey, achievements and the indomitable spirit of its alumnae, faculty and students. The jubilee opening celebration witnessed participation of faculty, academicians, alumnae and students.

The programme was presided over by Dr. Sr. Stella Mary fmm, Principal i/c, Stella Maris College, who expressed her happiness on the commemoration of this significant milestone in the Department’s journey. Dr. Rajeswari Thiagarajan, the First Head of the Department, also graced the occasion.

On this landmark moment, Ms. Blessy Boaz, Head of the Department of Computer Science stated, “With 25 years of academic excellence and numerous accomplishments under its belt, the Department is all set to celebrate this momentous occasion with a series of engaging and enlightening 25 activities throughout the year, like seminars and workshops where renowned experts from the field of computer science will cover a wide array of topics ranging from cutting-edge technologies to trending research areas, providing an the
opportunity for students to interact with experts and gain valuable insights.”

The Department will be curating a series of talks by its esteemed alumnae who have achieved remarkable success in their respective careers. These accomplished individuals will share their experiences, challenges, and triumphs, inspiring the current generation of students to dream big and aim high. Additionally, an exhibition where students will have the opportunity to demonstrate their innovative projects and solutions are some of the activities which have been planned.

The 25 years of academic excellence of the Department, and its endeavour to give back to the community that supported its journey, was manifested in the announcement of the establishment of the prestigious “Silver Jubilee Scholarship” by the Department. This Scholarship aims to recognise and support exceptional students who have demonstrated outstanding achievements in curricular and co-curricular activities and seeks to empower deserving students to pursue their academic aspirations and transform their dreams into reality.

As a part of the jubilee festivities, the Department is gearing up for the Third International Conference on Advanced Computing Technologies (ICACT 2023) which aims to bring together experts, researchers, and academicians from across the globe. It will serve as a platform for presenting ground-breaking research and fostering collaboration to address the challenges of the digital era.
