Tamil Nadu records over 17,000 dengue cases as monsoon nears
Tamil Nadu has recorded more than 17,000 dengue cases this year, Health and Family Welfare Minister KG Arunraj said, urging residents to remain alert as the northeast monsoon approaches.
Arunraj made the remarks after taking part in a video-conference review meeting chaired by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay in Chennai to assess the state’s preparations for the monsoon.
He said Erode had reported 329 dengue cases this year, compared with 462 cases during the previous year. He urged residents to prevent water from collecting around their homes, as stagnant water can contribute to the spread of dengue.
Commenting on the upcoming by-elections in Madurantakam and Dharapuram, Arunraj said he believed the TVK had a strong chance in both constituencies. He also alleged that protests targeting TVK candidates were being deliberately organised during their campaign.
