Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister appeals for rescheduling UGC-NET exam

Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister Prof Govai Chezhiyan on Monday urged Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to reschedule the UGC-NET and other exams in the State as it coincided with the traditional harvest festival of Pongal.

In a letter to Dharmendra Pradhan, copies of which were released to the media here, he pointed out that similar to the Pongal Festival, the Makar Sankranthi Festival is celebrated in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana also.

If the NET Exam is held during the Pongal Holidays, it will hamper the preparations for exam in view of celebrations.

In view of the four-day Pongal festival, Chartered Accountants foundation examination, January 2025 has been rescheduled, as per the request made by Tamil Nadu Lok Sabha MP S.Venkatesan, Chezhiyan said and sought the intervention of Dharmendra Pradhan to reschedule the UGC-NET exams and other examinations to appropriate dates, thereby ensuring that students and scholars of Tamil Nadu and other States where the Harvest Festival is celebrated, can appear for the examinations.

It may be noted that leaders of various political parties, including the alliance party leaders of the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu, slammed the Centre for scheduling the exams during the Pongal festival and demanded that it should be rescheduled.
