Tamil Nadu Election: Vijay’s father hails solo gamble, sees people’s mandate
As counting for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections continues today, May 4, the political landscape is witnessing a seismic shift as actor-turned-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has emerged as a dominant force.
Following the surge in early trends, Vijay’s father and veteran director S.A. Chandrasekhar (SAC) expressed emotional pride, hailing his son’s “solo gamble” as a successful validation of years of quiet preparation.
SAC noted that Vijay had spent the last 30 years contemplating how to serve the people of Tamil Nadu, and today’s leads in over 110 seats reflect a genuine “people’s mandate” for change.
The TVK has currently positioned itself as the single-largest party, nearing the 118 majority mark, while the incumbent DMK and opposition AIADMK are trailing significantly in many of their traditional strongholds.
In a move that has sparked intense political discussion, SAC also made an open appeal to the Congress, suggesting they align with the TVK to reclaim their historical relevance in the state’s governance.
While Vijay himself maintains strong leads in both Perambur and Tiruchirappalli East, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is reportedly trailing in Kolathur, underscoring the scale of the upset indicated by the current ECI data.
The counting is ongoing, and should these trends hold, the TVK could be on the verge of forming a government in its very first electoral outing, fundamentally altering the Dravidian political duopoly.
