Tamil Nadu approves Rs 9,335 crore Chennai Metro Rail Airport–Kilambakkam project

The Tamil Nadu government has officially approved the extension of the Chennai Metro Rail to connect the airport with Kilambakkam.

This new line, estimated to cost Rs 9,335 crore, aims to make travel easier for people going to the airport and the upcoming bus terminus in Kilambakkam.

The new metro line will stretch for 26 kilometers. It will start from the Chennai Airport Metro station and go all the way to the Kilambakkam bus stand.

This link is expected to be very helpful for commuters, especially those who travel frequently to other parts of Tamil Nadu from the new Kilambakkam bus terminus.

It will also provide a faster and more reliable way to reach the airport from the southern parts of the city.

Officials have stated that the project will be carried out by Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL). The funding for the ₹9,335 crore project will come from various sources.

The plan includes building new elevated metro stations along the 26-kilometer stretch. These stations will be designed with modern facilities to ensure a smooth and convenient experience for passengers.

This extension is part of the Phase II expansion of the Chennai Metro Rail network.
