ANALYSIS:
Director S R Prabahakaran, after a heavy subject in Sundarapandian and a light subject in Idhu Kathirvelan Kadhal, has once again taken the heavy route in Sathriyan.
Though the story of a gangster getting rerformed because of his love is old, Prabhakaran has presented it in a new bottle with the help of Vikram Prabhu and other members of the team.
Vikram Prabhu has done adequate homework and gets his act right. Manjima fits well to the role of a girl from a tier-two city, but her Tamil with Malayalam accent is a minus point. The star cast is huge and everyone has performed well, but Yogi Babu has been wasted.
When it comes to technical front, Yuvan Shankar Raja’s background score is one of the biggest highlights, while Sasikumar Vijayan’s cinematography is another strength.
On the flipside, the narration gets slow after a promising first-half and the screenplay wanders. But Sathriyan has its own thrilling and enjoyable moments. Though the film has not overdone a popular Vijayakanth movie of the same title, it has not harmed its reputation.
