Pokkiri Raja Tamil Movie Review
King or Kingmaker?
STORY
Sanjeevani (Jiiva) has a strange power acquired from his ancestors. He yawns frequently and puts anyone near him to sleep. Because of this, he loses his girlfriend and job. Besides, he also earns the wrath of ‘Cooling Glass’ Guna, a local gangster.
As luck would have it, he soon finds his love of life Sunitha (Hansika), who is not at all worried about Sanjeevani’s strange condition and loves him unconditionally. The rest is all about how Sanjeevani escapes from Guna and handles his peculiar yawn condition.
ANALYSIS
Kudos to Jiiva for picking such an out of the box role in his 25th film. Director Ramprakash Rayappa, who made an impressive debut with Tamizhukku En Ondrai Azhuthavum, comes up with another fantasy script, but it is not as good as his debut movie.
Length and lack of depth in the backstory are the big minus points of Pokkiri Raja. The plus points are a quirky storyline, smart one-liners and comic moments all over.
Jiiva shines bright while Sibiraj is equally good. And Hansika should be lauded for her performance, especially lip-sync. Yogiraj and others are adequate. D Imman has scored big time in both songs and BGM.
Anji’s visuals are attractive, while editor V J Sabu Joseph should have made the movie more crisp. Pokkiri Raja is a comedy entertainer and a different attempt. It has an entertaining first half.
