Pencil Tamil Movie Review – School days
STORY:
Shiva (G V Prakash Kumar) is a plus two student in a leading school in the city. He is a topper in the class and is at loggerheads with Nithin (Shariq Haasan), a rich spoilt brat who is the son of a top actor.
The big shock comes when Nithin is found dead in a mysterious manner one day. It is believed that Shiva is the murderer. The youngster decides to prove his innocence and he jumps into investigation mode. Coming to his help is his girlfriend Maya (Sri Divya).
ANALYSIS
Director Mani Nagaraj, a former associate of Gautham Vasudev Menon, should be lauded for picking a novel concept- a high school thriller- in his debut flick itself.
Though he was apparently inspired by Korean and Hollywood flicks, he has come out with a script that fits well to Tamil. And we must admit that the first half is clever and engaging.
However, things go haywire in the latter half, as the scenes are draggy and the film gets preachy while attempting to convey a message. An urgent trimming could save it.
G V Prakash makes a decent acting debut (yes, this is his first movie as actor), while Sri Divya, who looks cute as school girl, performs well. Shariq Haasan does a neat job.
GVP has done a good job as music director and his work is complemented well by Gopi Amarnath, the cinematographer. On the whole, Pencil is an engaging thriller but gets lengthy and preachy as it progresses.
Verdict: Above Average
