Political heat

STORY

Kumaran (Bobby Simha), a young journalist, kidnaps the Chief Minister (Prakash Raj) of Tamilnadu. Shocked to the core, the Home Minister Thillainayagam (Ilavarasu) instructs a special officer to probe the issue and save the CM.

In the meantime, Kumaran comes out with his set of demands and asks several relevant social issues to be addressed. In the meantime, the real mystery behind the kidnap is revealed.

Why the kidnap has happened? Are the demands of Kumaran fulfilled or not? The answers to these questions and more is what Ko 2 all about. And there is a solid flashback too.

ANALYSIS:

Ko 2, like its predecessor, is a political thriller that deals with media persons and politicians. But the sequel is not as classy as the first part, as the K V Anand film was far better than the new one.

However, Ko 2 has its own moments. Though the first half fails to take off, things gain moment post interval and the second half is really good. There are some original scenes and dialogues are sharp.

Bobby Simha, as protagonist, shines. He has apparently done homework to get his act right as journalist. Prakash Raj performs in an usual role, while Nikki does a good job. Ilavarasu rocks as a politically ambitious minister.

Leon Jones’ songs and background score are the big strengths of ‘Ko 2’, while there is nothing much to talk about cinematography and editing departments.

To sum it up, director Sarath has made a decent debut. Had he focused more on the first half, the film would have been the toast of this election season.
