STORY:
Kamali (Anandhi) is introduced as someone who indulges in a mischievous act everyday on the way to her school.
Her father (Azhagam Perumal) intends to get her married soon, as he believes that it is pointless of girls to pursue higher education.
As a weak student who is hardly interested in studies, Kamali doesn’t seem to have a problem with her father getting her married off.
Kamali’s life begins to change as soon as she falls in love with a studious boy in Chennai who aspires to make it to IIT Madras.
She decides to take her studies seriously and convinces her father to go for higher studies.
With the help of a retired professor (Pratap Pothen) in her village, she starts preparing for exams to join IIT Madras, only to meet her love.
ANALYSIS:
Director Rajasekar Duraisamy manages to make the viewers empathise with Kamali, thanks to her naivety and sincerity in achieving what her heart desires for.
For Anandhi, Kamali from Nadukkaveri is a career-defining film. Her character comes across as the typical Tamil heroine in the beginning, slowly, she transforms into a confident woman who stands tall with her self-confidence.
Talking about the transformation, Anandhi’s ability to quickly change her expressions from an innocent to an intrepid girl deserves applause.
The rest of the actors like Azhagam Perumal, Prathap Pothen, and Imman Annachi have also done their parts well.
The background score by Dheena Dhayalan is authentic. Cinematography by Jegadeesan Logayan enhances the quality of the film. Though we can’t avoid the feel of watching a film from a bygone era, Kamali From Nadukkaveri is a meaningful movie.
