Dhanusu Raasi Neyargalae: Astrology Vs Astronomy

STORY:

Arjun (Harish Kalyan) is obsessed with astrology so much that he does everything only based on the advice of his ‘guru’ Thirumandha (Pandiarajan).

His romances, including the one with Anitha (Reba Monica John) don’t work and he ‘realises’ through Thirumandha that only a Kanni raasi girl from a different State can be his life-partner.

Efforts by his mother (Renuka) and maternal uncle (Munishkanth), who is an atheist, to change Arjun’s mind don’t bear fruit. One day, he comes across KR Vijaya (Digangana Suryavanshi), an aspiring astronaut and it’s love at first sight.

Their meeting at a resto bar ends up at one-night stand. While they realise that they have a chemistry between themselves, can astrology and astronomy go hand in hand?

ANALYSIS:

Director Sanjay Bharathi has conceived an interesting knot with contrasting characters- a staunch believer of astrology, an aspiring astronaut and an E V Ramasamy (Periyar) follower.

But the way he has narrated the story is not as good as his basic idea. At many places, we feel like watching a movie made in the 1980s and 1990s, and Ghibran’s retro music only adds more fuel to the feel.

Harish Kalyan is fine, while Digangana makes a welcome debut. Reba Monica John has been wasted. The likes of Munishkanth, Pandiarajan, Renuka and Yogi Babu (who has narrated the story) add value.’

P K Varma’s camera work is functional. The film runs for a little more than two hours and this provides us major relief from its monotonous tone. But there are some entertaining scenes too which tickle the funny bone.
