Airaa Movie Review

STORY:

Yamuna (Nayanthara), a media professional, is not in a happy state of mind due to personal and professional reasons. While her parents want her to settle with a nagging NRI, her boss fails to understand her boredom at work.

She takes a break and goes to her grandmother’s place at Pollachi, where her visually challenged granny is assisted by one Mani (Yogi Babu).

Soon, Yamuna finds certain eerie things at the palatial house. However, she tries to use them to gain popularity and starts to make fake haunted videos for YouTube.

Back in Chennai, Amudhavan (Kalaiyarasan) is in love with Bhavani (another Nayanthara). But, she gets killed in a road mishap. And, the eerie things that happen in Pollachi are linked to Bhavani.

ANALYSIS:

A lot was talked about Airaa directed by Sarjun K M and featuring Nayanthara in a dual role for the first time. But, the film is only yet another addition to the long list of eerie thrillers dished out by Kollywood in the recent years.

Despite good performance by Nayanthara, the script is a letdown and we are only treated to familiar things that films of this genre offer- doors and chairs making noise, shadowy figures etc.

Kalaiyarasan has come up with good performance, while Yogi Babu is wasted. The earlier chemistry of Nayanthara and Yogi Babu in Kolamaavu Kokila is missing in Airaa.

On the positive side, cinematography is good and music by K S Sundaramurthy is very effective. There are good scenes like the one which shows things in zero gravity and another which shows things happening in two different places.

On the whole, Airaa, which banks heavily on Nayanthara factor, is for those who are okay with a regular eerie thriller for the sake of Nayanthara and production values.

Airaa – Less thrills & more spills
