Sarvam Thaala Mayam – Music matters
STORY:
Peter (G V Prakash Kumar) is the son of Johnson (Kumaravel), who is a mridangam maker. Peter dreams of becoming a maestro in mridangam. For that, he wants to learn the art from veteran Vembu Iyer (Nedumudi Venu).
Vembu Iyer, a stickler for traditions, is initially not ready to allow Peter, who hails from the lower strata of the society, to learn mridangam. He is not ready to believe that Peter is so serious about his passion.
However, as days pass by, Peter makes his ‘guru’ understand his passion and skills. Even as Vembu Iyer comes forward to accept Peter as his ‘sishya’, hurdles come in the form of Mani (Vineeth), Vembu’s disciple and assistant.
With Mani doing all things to ruin the lives and reputation of Vembu Iyer and Peter, how the guru and sishya emerge triumphant from all hurdles forms the crux of Sarvam Thaala Mayam.
ANALYSIS:
Who said a hard-hitting story, negative scenes and fiery dialogues are needed to convey caste barriers in films? Sarvam Thaala Mayam does the same with a feel-good story, positive scenes and soothing dialogues.
Back to direction after nearly two decades (18 years, to be precise), Rajiv Menon does justice to the theme with scenes and narration. And he is ably supported by the cast, music (by A R Rahman) and beautiful cinematography (Ravi Yadav).
G V Prakash Kumar, a musician by himself, has come up with his career-best performance till date. Aparna Balamurai as his love interest delivers convincing performance.
While Vineeth, who has made a comeback, is believable, the show-stealer is veteran Nedumudi Venu, whose each and every small movement speaks. He has lived the character.
Though the romance portions, cross-country journey and few more things harm the flow of the movie, Sarvam Thaala Mayam is a feel-good musical story that deserves a watch.
