STORY:

Maari (Dhanush) rules his area along with his best friend Kalai (Kreshna). Though the don is game for all ‘atrocities’, he is against drug business.

However, the rival gang wants to partner with Maari to ensure hurdle-free business. In the meantime, Gangadhar Beeja aka Thanatos (Tovino Thomas), a hardened criminal, wants to take revenge against Maari for killing his brother.

Beeja almost succeeds in his attempt and is about to finish off Maari and his girlfriend Anandhi (Sai Pallavi), But the couple escape and settle in Tenkasi where they lead a normal life.

However, situations force Maari to come back to Chennai and emerge as don again, as he has to settle score with his enemies.

ANALYSIS:

Maari 2 starts where Maari ended and director Balaji Mohan, unlike the first part, has loaded the sequel with emotions, sentiments and more commercial elements.

Though there are number of artistes, two persons who stand tall with their performances are Dhanush and Sai Pallavi. While the former steals the show with his swag and styles, the latter, as Arathu Anandi, an auto driver, oozes charm.

And what more? Dhanush and Sai Pallavi will make you dance for Rowdy Baby song. Varalakshmi Sarathkumar, Robo Shankar, Kreshna and Vinoth have done their parts well.

Yuvan Shankar Raja is back with a bang and both songs and background score are good. Om Prakash’s cinematography and G K Prasanna’s editing are the other highlights.

In 150 minutes, the director has packed too many things. While doing so, he has missed out on few fronts. Importantly, the climax looks hurried and cliched. But still, Maari 2 will be loved by masala lovers.
